One of the top prizes available for homebrewers taking part in the Robe homebrew competition will be the chance to brew your beer on a larger scale in collaboration with Robe Town Brewery, with the aim of serving it up at the following year’s festival.
The 2015 beer of show was a traditional English pale ale brewed by Jeff Croser from Mt Gambier, SA. Back in June 2016 Jeff and his brewing brother Michael both came down to Robe and spent a fun day brewing with us. We upped Jeff’s original 20 litre batch recipe to 200 litres, using traditional ale malt, Maris Otter malt, torrified wheat and dark crystal malt. Jeff’s own secret hopping regime (most of which was made up of hops that he had grown himself!!) added the perfect touch to this aromatic and tasty ale. Mashing in the oak barrel and filtering through hay, as well as wood-fired boiling obviously makes a little difference to the final product, but it is a cracking ale, which will be served on tap throughout the festival in Robe, and might even later have a small run at the local pub Jeff works at in Mt Gambier!
So, get brewing and take part in the festival fun, and you might even get the chance to brew your beer on a larger scale at our brewery in Robe for next year’s festival!
